I was born in Toronto and spent my early years in Ontario and Quebec before moving to Australia over 50 years ago.
My earliest ancestors were United Empire Loyalists that settled along the St Lawrence River in 1784 (after the American Revolution). Other ancestors came across from England, Scotland and Ireland as part of the trans-Atlantic migrations from 1815-1865. They settled in Ottawa, Montreal and rural Québec. My great-grandmother arrived in 1880 as part of the British Home Child movement and was fostered by a family in Huntley, Ottawa, Ontario. My grandfather was the last to arrive in 1907. He was from Londonderry and became the City Commissioner of Saskatoon.
My parents lived in several places across the USA and Canada. My father was born in Toronto and my mother was born in Saskatchewan. They met and married in New York City and at various times lived as a couple in Ontario, Quebec, Connecticut, and California.
My main research interests are in Canada from Quebec to British Columbia. I have some interest in USA research, mainly in the New England region.
