Getting UK records and payments through us
We operate a document retrieval service to assist researchers to obtain copies of English and Welsh birth, death and marriage records and probates. This is a member-only service.
ENGLISH & WELSH BDM CERTIFICATES
You can purchase 1837+ English and Welsh birth, death and marriage certificates from the General Register Office in England online. However, for members who do not wish to use online credit card services we will order these on your behalf.
The current cost through the SAG is $25 and certificates are available for collection from 2/379 Kent Street or can be mailed to you for an additional $2 if this has been paid in advance. Where permission to do so is given, a copy of each certificate is added to our Manuscript and Image Collection.
Download the relevant form and lodge it with us in person, by mail or as a scan attached to an email. All details must be completed, including the GRO index reference. The indexes are available for searching on a number of websites including FreeBMD, the official GRO website for births 1837-1918 and deaths1837-1957 as well as through several commercial websites. Volunteers can also help you check the indexes at 2/379 Kent Street if you are unfamiliar with these.
It is your responsibility to ensure that the information you provide from the indexes has been correctly transcribed as only a partial refund will be given by the GRO if they cannot locate the certificate.
ENGLISH & WELSH PROBATES
You can purchase 1858+ probates and administrations from England & Wales online through the UK Probate Office. For members who do not wish to use online credit card services we will order these on your behalf.The cost through the SAG service is $10 which includes our service charge. When received, the will is emailed to you electronically, left for collection at 2/379 Kent Street or mailed to you for an additional $2 if this has been paid in advance. Where permission is given to do so, a copy of each document is added to our Manuscript collection.
You can search the probate index online from 1858 to the present day through the UK Probate Office and through some commercial websites. Volunteers at 2/379 Kent Street can assist you with this search if you are unfamiliar with this index.
ENGLISH STERLING PAYMENTS
Need to pay for a UK family history society subscription or service? While we no longer offer a sterling cheque service, in some instances we can still help members send a small amount of money to the UK If you do not have the facilities to do so yourself.
Contact us on 9247 3953 or by email to confirm whether we can assist. Once confirmation is given we will advise the current exchange rate to be used and send out a form for completion.
